February 2010 will see the release of the much awaited Tursa/Kaparte compilation ‘With Friends Like These’, distributed by Cold Spring.
While the exact date of the release is still to be confirmed officially, we will be having a launch party on Sunday 7 February as part of the new program of Ship of Fools Club.
It will take place on our favourite boat on the Thames, Bar & Co, Temple Piers on Victoria Embankment, where there will be short live sets by some very special guests.

‘With Friends Like These’ is a double CD featuring 39 tracks by worldwide artists.

This compilation is a group effort produced to enhance the quality of the work of musicians who are linked together by a passion for experimenting with new sounds and exploring the boundaries across various genres.
Ranging from traditional and dark folk, electronica, ambient, neo-classical and post-punk, but first of all, beyond classification.

Partly because of the increasingly fractured and ‘dog eat dog’ nature of modern music, we have and hope to continue to bring together artists from different genres to work and help each other with regard to concerts, promotion and recording.

We are absolutely proud and consider ourselves very lucky to have ‘friends like these’.

***The compilation CD will available at a special price for those attending the launch.***

Ship of Fools: iNiT + Roshi + Alex Monk

Kaparte Promotions & Tursa present:

Ship of Fools Club
(Christmas Special)
with iNiT, Roshi, Alex Monk

Doors 8.00pm-11.45pm
Tickets £6 in advance from: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/54954

www.kaparte.info

iNiT plays sultry dancefloor sounds with an electro edge. Cabaret, electronica, rock and Middle Eastern influences fuse into a smokey eyed kaleidoscope. Songs of burlesque, urban angst and lurv are performed with outright audacity, plenty of tongue in cheek but almost always - a grain of truth. Their work entails both the creation of sound and a visual exploration of it. The latter is particularly evident in their colourful live performances. Think Depeche Mode, think Marc Almond, think dry ice and pulsating energy.

Roshi
Born in Wales to Iranian parents, Roshi Nasehi is a singer -writer who presents her own evocative songs alongside sometimes quite radical interpretations of some of the Iranian songs she was brought up listening to. Her songs reflect her origins, influences and experiences in a personal and unique way accompanied by unusual piano or keyboard arrangements, her voice airy and tender but possessed of an inner power. It’s an unusual sound world combining Roshi's intimate singing style and Dids-Gagarin's experimental electronic powers and haunting string layers create a unique genre-crossing, exotic, folktronica landscape.
www.myspace.com/roshisongs

Alex Monk is a musician and producer based in London and is fond of experimentation and improvisation, combining acoustic and digitally processed elements. Subjecting the guitar and found sounds to a variety of analogue and digital processes, Monk’s live improvised performances exhibit past, present and future sonic events. A creation of timeless artefacts akin to the apex of Post-Punk inventiveness, as well as today’s ecclesiastical drone rock.

The Cesarians, the most talked band in town will play an outstanding set for the exclusive club Nocturne Folks, in the decadent settings of the glourious Half Moon in Herne Hill, on Friday 27 November.
Featuring ex members of Penthouse, Monkey Island and Baadar Meinhoff, it's not since The Birthday Party crashed and burned in Berlin, that the twisted sounds of old style decadence has been pumped so intensely through distorted amplifiers. London scenesters looking for a scene free of recycled rock, have found expression in The Cesarians cabaret world.
Had rock and roll been born in 1930's urban Europe, and not 1930's rural America, it would have been like this; part Kurt Weil, part Jacques Brel, part Ernst Kirchner, part klezma. Looking like a band formed in the mind of George Grosz, The Cesarians capture the urban zeitgeist via the junk shop instruments of old Europe . In their hands, a clarinet, trombone, piano, and drums beaten in waltz time, make raw and raucous rock and roll. Over this beautiful chaos Charlie Finke preaches his own intense message.
"As far as alt.rock oompah bands go, this lot are in a class of their own." - David Sinclair, The Times Online
" It is classic, dirty rock and roll at it's best, a sound missing for at least twenty-five years we're damn happy it's back." - Bearded Magazine
www.myspace.com/thecesarians
http://thecesarians.com/

Graan formed spontaneously following a successful appearance under the Platform Five (Funf) at the Avantgarde festival in Schiphorst, Germany, in July 2008.
Graan make Avant-Enochian doom and science-fiction drone bringing heavy bass guitar frequencies into the electronic mix alongside gutteral utterances, mordant guitar riffs and dystopian spoken word. Graan is approximately half the members of Stëllä Märïs Drönë Örchësträ and one of Drift of Signifieds, creating soundscapes where new weird electronica meets deep-listening Lovecraftian Delerium.
"If Aleister Crowley, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe and John Dee formed a band then this would be the result. London’s Graan will crush your spirit with deafening static, claustrophobic low end, blasphemous ranting and monomaniacal pursuit of The Riff." - Bang the Bore

HUGO RACE
Melbourne-born multi-instrumentalist, performer and songwriter Hugo Race is an eclectic and prolific artist who has worked and lives in US, UK, France, Germany and Italy since 1988. He was a founding member of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds (1983) with whom he also worked in the final stages of the Birthday Party. He appears on five CDs of the Bad Seeds catalogue. Through the 90’s he released a series of nine records under his own name with the Berlin-based musical collective The True Spirit for the Normal and Glitterhouse label, culminating in ‘The Long Time Ago’ double Cd retrospective released in 2001. In 1999 Hugo set up his own production base Helidex. Recording in different situations and locations from Brussels to Bologna, The True Spirit have followed a personal musical vision in a series of mutating line-ups that fuse the boundaries between blues and electronica, described by London Sounds as ‘night music for the soul’ and by Melody Maker as ‘industrial-trance-blues’. This is an exclusive solo London gig for Hugo Race and the last date of an extensive European and Australian tour. He is going to present fresh material from his acclaimed album ‘Between Hemispheres’.

Cult artist, eclectic visionary, whatever the label, Hugo Race has followed a relentlessly uncompromising artistic path since his teenage years as a founding member of the Bad Seeds (in 1983 he started playing in the terminal stages of the legendary Birthday Party and wound up appearing on five cds of the Bad Seed’s catalogue) – and as leader of underground 80s postpunk rockers The Wreckery he doesn’t just know music, he lives it. – Spooky Records

NAEVUS
Naevus was formed in London in 1998 by Lloyd James and Joanne Owen. With their first two albums (Truffles of Love in 1999 and Soil in 2001), Naevus found themselves welcomed into the heart of the burgeoning post-industrial scene, while their third album, Behaviour (2002), marked a turning point in the band’s sound and paved the way for the classic albums which followed it (2004’s Perfection is a Process and 2007’s Silent Life). The group’s most recent album, Relatively Close to the Sea, was released by Hau Ruck! In 2008.
The group’s sound has been described as “the Wire of the dark folk scene” and “what Swans would sound like if they were English”, but there is much more to the group than this; their distinctive lyrics and modernist approach set Naevus clearly apart from their contemporaries. Fresh from performing at a sell-out festival in Rome, this gig will see the four-piece version of Naevus performing live favourites like ‘Hasty Bastard’ and ‘The Body Speaks in Tongues’, alongside new tracks from the forthcoming ‘Days That Go’ EP.

DAVID E.WILLIAMS
Though he's dabbled in neo-Weimar cabaret, abrasive electronics and even film scores, David E. Williams is best known for electro-symphonic pop and a lyrical humor so dark that it's not really funny. Some might call it gallows humor, but "gas chamber humor" is a bit more accurate for his love songs rife with murder, abuse and obscure references to eating. Williams has been described as "Barry Manilow's evil twin" (Jim Knipfel, NY Press), "Liberace with a brain tumor" (Michael Moynihan, Blood Axis) and "Andrew Lloyd Webber in the final stages of cerebral cancer" (Headpress, U.K.).

TONY WAKEFORD
Co-founder of Crisis and Death in June in the late 70s and early 80s Wakeford has always been the primary force in Sol Invictus. He has also composedd Classical music whilst recording outside the framework of Sol Invictus. He has subsequently brought transformative concepts into the familiar terrain of his principle group. He formed L'Orchestre Noir in the mid-1990s to explore classical and soundtrack composition. He also played bass, guitar and keyboards on a number of studio albums by Current 93 as well as playing with them live.

JEROME DEPPE
Jerome Deppe is a painter, photographer and songwriter residing in Baltimore Maryland. Well traveled and no stranger to controversy, Jerome has been a fixture on the avant-garde music scene since the early 1980s. An alumnus of the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC Jerome has been involved in the proliferation of cutting edge imagery and is a vociferous proponent of free speech and free cultural expression. With the creation of his multi media creation of pathos and despair "Showtunes for the Damned", Jerome has again crossed over boundaries and forged a new method of artistic expression.

Lilies On Mars is a London based female duo originally from Italy. They seems to already have caught the attention of several renowned people. So they met David Lynch in 2007 and composed a special tribute show following his conference in Palermo. Last summer they toured Europe with Italian experimental composer Battiato and collaborated to his new album. Their work can be described as experimental-dreamy-choral-noise-rock.
- 'Otherwordly. Remarkable. Terribly sweet' - Ben Hell (Club Hell)
- 'Created from an abundance of musical experiences, Lilies On Mars have elaborated and expanded into a cosmos of the unknown, with tripped out melodies and droning distortion.' - Altsound

Kaparte is also proud to host an exclusive Chicken Legs Weaver solo set, with his exciting blend of primitive Rn'B and beat folk, glinding guitar and raucos grating voice, Andy truly nails the dark side of human nature.
